In my very first post, I mentioned being a huge fan of Liverpool FC. I have kept my fandom off of the blog to this point but today breaks that trend. Liverpool has a gigantic game against Napoli in a few hours to end Champions League pool play. They win 1-0 or by at least 2 goals, they move on to the final 16, they lose and they’re out. Being eliminated during pool play would be a shock to top of the Premier League table, defending Champions League runner-ups, Liverpool.
The squad is entirely too good to suffer elimination this early on but a shocking loss to Crvena Zvezda has dug them a hole that only they can dig themselves out of. The good news for them? They have one of the best attacks in the world paced by Mohamed Salah, Bobby Firmino and Sadio Mane with key pieces available off the bench in Daniel Sturridge (who has refound his old form now that he’s fully healthy) and Divock Origi. And Allison has been an incredible add at Goalkeeper as many including myself believe, with better play in net, Liverpool would’ve beat Real Madrid last season on that fateful night in Kiev.
Napoli is one hell of a club but Anfield will be rocking and Klopp will have this team ready to run through a wall to move on to the final 16. I have loads of confidence in this team which means a loss would be taken twice as hard. So, here’s to hoping the lads get it done at home and advance on to start with a clean slate.
P.P.S.- Fuck you Dries Martens.
